China Teaching Blog

From July 9 to August 15, 2009, American teachers planned to teach Chinese teachers of English in Fuzhou and Nanjing about American methods of teaching. They would also be working with Chinese students for two weeks in an English language camp. Not long before leaving Boston, Fuzhou canceled their program because of the H1N1 virus. The Fuzhou group went instead to a summer camp in Zhuhai. Come here to learn about their adventures.

If you would like to see Maria Marrero’s blog for Nanjing 2009, click here.

Again there are three groups of 25-30 eighth graders from Nanjing Experimental School. Here Wang Dong Ping, principal of the school, is talking to the students and is about to introduce the American teachers. The screen in the background shows the slideshow we used each time to introduce ourselves.

To do so, Susan, Li Rui (our liaison), and she took the fast train back to Shanghai this morning, a trip they made a week ago to apply for the passport. Here Maria and Susan stand in front of a building on Nanjing Road, the walking street in Shanghai. The blue fellow in the background is the mascot for the International Exposition to be held in Shanghai in 2010.

After climbing the pagoda at Daming Temple, we walked around beautiful rock formations and a Qing home at Ge Yuan (Ge Garden). We also shopped for lacquer ware, a specialty of this city. Our day ended with a delicious dinner at a great restaurant with our host, Cao Xiaozhu. Yangzhou was his home when he grew up, and he still has a home here, so he knows it well.
To see more photos, click here.
